This organization provides a low cost and efficient system for soil and water conservation, erosion control, infrastructure
stabilization, pollution control, waste water treatment, mitigation and prevention of storm damage and many other applications. Vetiver
Grass, Vetiveria zizanioides, (recently reclassified as Chrysopogon zizanioides) is the main component to all Vetiver System based
bioengineering and conservation applications. The plant is unique. It can be used in the tropics and semi tropics, and areas such
as Italy and California that have a Mediterranean type climate where there are hot summers, and winters are temperate.
This organization is an agroforestry resource center that is helping people in developing countries to improve
their rural livelihoods through the introduction of environmentally sustainable land management projects focused on beneficial tree
planting. Most communities around the world recognize that they need to plant trees on their degraded lands if they are to improve
their lives. They provide technical knowledge on agroforestry and sustainable development, along with planting materials so that communitites
can return their degraded lands and struggling farms back to sustainable production. Beneficial trees minimize soil erosion, supply
forage for animals, and provide a source of fuelwood, but planting trees is difficult when the canopy has disappeared, topsoil has
been eroded, and the climate and growing conditions have changed.
